Neterion X3100™ Series
10 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapters

Overview
Neterion continues to lead the industry in 10 Gigabit Ethernet solutions that enhance the productivity and efficiency of data centers while slashing their costs and reducing complexity. While virtualization and multi-core processors have provided IT managers with the capability to optimize their data centers, Neterionís X3100 Series adapters provide the means to fully utilize these advances. With the X3100 Series, Neterion delivers its 3rd generation 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller, providing easy access to new features that enable I/O Virtualization without compromise and hardware offloads that significantly ease the demands on server CPU and memory resources.

I/O Virtualization without Compromise
The X3100 Series was designed to provide an optimum solution for I/O Virtualization. By offloading many of the Hypervisor tasks from the host software to the adapter, virtualized applications can achieve performance levels previously experienced only on servers running in non-virtualized or native OS modes. With 17 independent bi-directional data paths, even I/O intensive applications can realize the benefits of virtualization without compromising performance.

High Performance
Based on Neterionís field proven, high performance ASIC architecture, the X3100 Series combines state machines with flexible, embedded processor cores. The Neterion architecture combined with a high-performance PCIe x8 interface, enables the X3100 Series to deliver full bi-directional line rate throughput with very low latencies.

With Large Receive Offload (LRO), Neterion has defined an industry standard that delivers line rate throughput while significantly reducing both CPU and memory utilization. The X3100 Series sequences and aggregates received data in a way that makes it much more efficient to process. LRO will reduce CPU utilization by up to 50% and enable optimized access to system memory. This frees up system resources for use by applications rather than managing the I/O system.

Data Center Reliability
Designed for data center applications, the X3100 Series protects all internal and external memories with single error correction, double error detection ECC. Also, the dual-port 10 GbE network interfaces are designed for robustness with support for link aggregation and failover.

Easy Integration
The X3100 Series adapters allow end-users to preserve their existing investments in operating systems, software applications, network administration tools and personnel training, while dramatically increasing network performance by eliminating I/O bottlenecks. Network management is greatly simplified, increasing both security and reliability while lowering the total cost of ownership.

The X3100 Series is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard. The dual ports utilize industry-standard XAUI protocol and are interoperable with many different physical layer technologies, including SR, LR, CX4, KX4, LRM, and 10GBase-T. This ensures the X3100 Series will be compatible with your network infrastructure.
All Neterion products include full IPv4/IPv6 and comprehensive stateless offloads that preserve the integrity of current TCP/IP implementations without "breaking the stack." Drivers are available for all major operating systems.

Highlights
The X3100 Series is based on a powerful architecture that combines the efficiency of state machines with the flexibility of embedded processor cores. Its protocol offload and HA/RAS (High Availability/Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) features provide the highest performance and reliability.

• A high-performance PCIe x8 system interface, combined with extensive protocol offloads   maximize host efficiencies by reducing host processing loads and optimizing bus  utilization.

• Dual ports with fully integrated IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation/failover features are   designed to meet the demanding redundancy and high availability requirements of critical   data center applications.

• Hardware I/O Virtualization supports true single-root and multi-root PCI-SIG I/O   Virtualization. Virtual machines (VM) within the server are provisioned with up to 17   independent bi-directional dedicated virtual Ethernet adapters each with guaranteed   isolation and independent reset.

• Neterion pioneered the development of Large Receive Offload (LRO) which is now a   widely accepted industry standard available on the X3100 Series.

• True QoS (Quality of Service) support for each virtual path, allowing traffic to be   classified, prioritized, and queued at line rate.

• Turn-key driver support for all major Operating Systems and server architectures
(Custom driver development is also available).

• "Carrier Grade" environmentals for power, thermal, and noise characteristics.
